# API reference

## Authentication

Every request carries an API key in the Authorization header:

Create a key in the app under Settings > API keys. Keys carry one of three
access levels and can have a monthly credit budget; see
[Authentication](/authentication) and
[API keys and permissions](/concepts/keys-and-permissions).

## Errors

Errors return [RFC 9457 problem details](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9457):
read `code` for program logic and `request_id` for support. See
[Errors and retries](/concepts/errors).
